JEREMY CORBYN WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT AND CAMPAIGN FOR MIGRANTS AND ASYLUM SEEKERS

JEREMY CORBYN IS NOW STANDING TO BE ELECTED AS AN INDEPENDENT MP IN ISLINGTON NORTH AT THE GENERAL ELECTION ON JULY 4th

IF ELECTED, HE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT AND CAMPAIGN FOR MIGRANTS AND ASYLUM SEEKERS AS HE HAS DONE SINCE HE WAS FIRST ELECTED AS AN MP IN 1983

HE HAS ALWAYS SPOKEN UP FOR MINORITIES AND THOSE IN NEED WHATEVER POLITICAL PARTY WAS IN POWER AND HE HAS HAD SIGNIFICANT SUCCESS WHEN HIS CONSTITUENTS HAVE HAD TO APPEAL NEGATIVE DECISIONS ABOUT THEIR IMMIGRATION STATUS

HE ALSO HAS BEEN VOCAL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE IN DEBATES ON MIGRATION AND ASYLUM WHILST OTHER MPs HAVE OFTEN NOT RAISED THEIR VOICES

Jeremy Corbyn has recently stated that:
“In Islington North, we believe that all human lives are equal. Together, we have spent the past 40 years campaigning for peace and justice across the globe. That is what we will continue to do: by protecting the rights of refugees and transforming the rules of the global economy so they work for everybody.

Islington has a proud history of welcoming refugees. We know that refugees have enriched everybody’s lives. We know that refugees are scholars, scientists, teachers, doctors and nurses. And we know that refugees are human beings, who deserve to be treated with respect. That’s why we have successfully resisted unlawful deportations together, and I will continue to protect the rights of refugees settling in our borough. Refugees are not our enemies. They are human beings who are victims of environmental disaster, persecution and war. I will always stand up to politicians who scapegoat refugees for crises they did not create. Let’s open our arms, hearts and minds to those just trying to survive. That means establishing safe routes for asylum seekers.

Islington North has been built by people who came from overseas to make this community their home. Take the Whittington: it simply would not exist were it not for all the nurses and midwives from Africa and the Caribbean, who have worked in the NHS since its foundation in 1948. Our community has been enriched by immigration: let’s build a system based on compassion, dignity and respect. That means ending the hostile environment which led to the deportation of British citizens. We should scrap the cruel minimum income requirement for spousal visas. I will also continue to do what I’ve always done and campaign for full voting rights for EU nationals and defend free movement”.
