Caribbean Labour Solidarity supports Faiza Shaheen, the Independent candidate in Chingford & Woodford Green
- Support investment in public services: The NHS, our schools, and our justice system all need to have adequate funding if we are to tackle the huge inequalities in life chances and build a fair society.
- Drive action on the climate crisis: I have been working on policies to address our environmental concerns while maximising the creation of good jobs for non-graduates for several years. We cannot address the climate crisis without public support, and to do this new policies must make people feel financially secure. This is one of the key lessons from ULEZ, where a sufficient scrappage scheme was not available from the start.
- Electoral reform: Build a coalition of supporters around the need for electoral reform so that every vote counts.
- Challenge vested interests: As an independent I will be able to challenge how our party politics is funded, and highlight the undue influence of outside actors including big corporations.
- Speak up for peace, including by supporting the end of arms sales to countries involved in civilian killings.
- Palestine: My position on Palestine and Israel is that we need an immediate and permanent ceasefire and a release of all hostages and prisoners. Palestine must immediately be recognised as a state, in line with our neighbours Ireland, Spain and Norway. The UK must respect the International Court of Justice and its ruling. The government must stop arm sales to Israel and other countries using arms to kill innocent civilians. If elected, I will make sure to be a voice in Parliament that continues to advocate for peace in the region.
